This document will outline a basic process of capturing an image from a host PC and deploy it to a different PC on the network.
You must ensure that network boot is at the top of the boot sequence in order to allow the PC(s) to find the Fog Server when capturing and deploying.
For this example we will name the PCs: Capture-PC-01 and Deploy-PC-02
Capturing an Image
Log on to the Fog Server
Go to Images – You need to create a new image before capturing it from a PC
Select: Create New Image
You will then need to fill in the relevant information such as: Image Name, Description, Operating System etc…..
For this example we will call the image: Windows 10 x64 Base
When completed select: Add
This will then add the new image to the Images List
Once this is completed you then need to associate the newly created image with the host PC you want to capture.
Go to: Hosts
Select the host you want to capture: Capture-PC-01
In the General Host tab change the Host Image to the newly created image: Windows 10 x64 Base
Select: Update
You can then begin capturing the image by returning to the Hosts tab and finding the PC you want to capture: Capture-PC-01
In the Task section of the All Hosts tab select the Capture button
In the Host Management Edit confirm the the Image Associated with the PC is correct then select Task. This will prepare the capturing process.
At this point you will need to restart the Host machine you have chosen to capture.
Note: It will reboot the PC after it begins the capturing process displaying the process in real time.
You can monitor its progress in Task Management under Active Tasks.
This concludes the capturing of a PC using Fog.
The next aspect of the process is to deploy the newly captured image.
To deploy an image
Go to: Hosts
Find the PC you want to deploy and image to: Deploy-PC-02
In the General Host tab change the Host Image to the newly captured image: Windows 10 x64 Base
Select: Update
You can then begin capturing the image but returning to the Hosts tab and finding the PC you want to deploy the image to: Deploy-PC-02
In the Task section of the All Hosts tab select the Deploy button
In the Host Management Edit confirm the the Image Associated with the PC is correct then select Task. This will prepare the deployment process.
To begin deployment start the PC and watch it boot into iPXE. A Fog Project window will follow then the process will start. This process is automated so once the PC is powered on the process will automatically begin.
Once deployment has completed it will reboot into the newly deployed OS.
